Apple Airport Router: Known Issues

To resolve issues with the Apple Airport dropping Source-Connect connections please use at least version 3.8.

Historical information:

Certain versions of the Apple Time Capsule and the latest Apple Airport Extreme will cause network issues, where Source-Connect will drop the connection. If using the TimeCapsule as a router we advise you install this as a Network Drive only.

If you cannot bypass the Apple router, please use this Temporary Network Fixer tool. It will trick the Airport into maintaining a connection.

Affected Apple versions

Airport Base Station Firmware versions that have this bug:

• 7.6.4 - August 2013
• 7.7.3 - April 2014

Check with Apple to see if a newer Firmware version exists: http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport

Source Elements has verified with Apple that the bug has been fixed in a Beta firmware version in July 2014. We are waiting for them to release this new version.

If you cannot upgrade your Source-Connect software, until Apple releases a new firmware version the only solution that has worked for others has been to replace the Airport router with another model, or bypass the Airport router, or to run the Airport router in Bridge mode.

About Apple Routers

While convenient, Apple routers are home & consumer devices and do not allow for advanced configuration options such as QoS, port type separation between TCP and UDP, and DHCP Reservation. A more advanced router such as any listed brand above is strongly recommended for use in locations that need to use the Internet for professional use.
