Getting Started with Source-Nexus I/O

  • Source-Nexus I/O User Guide
  • Quick Start Guides

This article is a quick guide, which does not include working with any of the other Source Elements products. If you are looking for those instructions, check out the Source-Nexus I/O user guide, which includes a few sample scenarios.

You can use any DAW of your choice which run plug-ins in real-time and can receive audio from a remote party and record them. This quick guide will use Pro Tools as a reference.

Go through our list of Supported Hosts for all Source Elements products and plugins if you need a quick check.

  1. If you haven’t already, make sure to request a Source-Nexus I/O full-featured trial the first time you drop the plugin on your DAW. You will be asked to create a new Source Elements account if you do not have one.
  2. Log into your account here and download Source-Nexus I/O.
  3. Launch your DAW of choice.
  4. Add an aux track.
  5. Insert the “Source-Nexus I/O (mono)” plugin on the track.
  6. Configure your SEND/RECV devices depending on your specific needs.

One of the most common scenarios for Source-Nexus I/O is to use it with other conferencing applications such as Source-Connect. There is no one way to route Source-Connect, however, the best way is what works for you and what you understand. The following is a simple setup that will help get you started:

  1. Open up Pro Tools and create the following buses (by going to Setup > I/O > Bus):
    1. A mono “ToSC” bus.
    2. A mono “FromSC” bus.
  2. Create the following three tracks:
    1. A mono track called “Talkback”.
      1. Set the input of the talkback track to your microphone.
      2. In the “SENDS” section, select “bus” > “ToSC”. Make sure to turn on the volume for the bus.
      3. Turn on Track Record Enable.
      4. Turn on Input Monitoring.
    2. A mono track called “Source-Connect”.
      1. Set the input of the track to “FromSC”.
    3. An aux track.
      1. In the INSERTS section, go to plugin > other and add a "Source-Nexus I/O (mono)" instance.
      2. Set the input of the track to “ToSC”.
      3. Set the output of the track to “FromSC”.

Immediately after step (c), you should see signal going in the SEND volume meter of Source-Nexus I/O:

You can then select “Source-Nexus A” and “Source-Nexus B” as your I/O respectively on Source-Connect in order to work with your DAW.
