How to configure Reaper and Source-Connect 4 Studio/Facility to record incoming audio signal

There will be four separate setups you will need to take care of:

• Creating a folder on your local machine for your session.
• Following a set of steps in Reaper.
• Following a set of steps in Source-Connect 4.
• Recording on your DAW.

1. Create a folder for the Reaper session

On your computer, create a folder to save your session and the audio files in your session. Name it “Sample Reaper Session Files”.

2. Configure Reaper for recording

In Reaper, follow these steps:

a. Go to File > New project to add a new Reaper project.

b. Go to File > Save project as.

c. Save the project in the same folder you created in step 1 (in our case, in “Sample Reaper Session Files”). Name it “SampleSession”.

d. Go to File > Project settings. In the Media tab, make sure that Path to save media files (can be relative, leave blank for same path as project file) is left empty. That way, the audio files will be saved in the same folder as the .rpp project file.

e. Go to Track > Insert new track. This will add a new track to your project. 

f. Double click the white input in the track and name the track “Recording”.

g. Click the FX button. In the Add FX to Track 1 “Recording” window that opens, click VST3: Source-Connect (Source Elements). Then, click Add.

h. Rename your plugin to “SCToReaperPlugin”.

i. Record Arm the track by clicking the red button on the track.

j. Right click the record arm button, then choose Record output > Record: output (stereo).

3. Configure Source-Connect for your session

In Source-Connect 4, follow these steps:

a. Go to the Restore/Replace tab.

b. In the RECORDED FILES widget, click the R/R settings button.

c. In the WATCH FOLDER PATH window, click “Set Watch Folder”.

d. Choose the folder you created in step 1 ("Sample Reaper Session Files").

e. Click the gears icon in the top right panel.

f. In the AUDIO I/O section, set CHANNELS to Stereo.

g. In the AUDIO I/O section, select SCToReaperPlugin as your output.

h. In the Contacts panel, click your contact's icon and click the Connect button. Make sure both “Restore” and “Replace” are enabled.

4. Click “Record” in Reaper

In Reaper, click the red “Record” button in the Mixer. 

Then, go ahead and perform your session.

When you are ready to finish your session, click the “Record” button again to stop recording.

4. Wait for the recording to be displayed in Source-Connect 4

It might take some time for your recording to show up on Source-Connect 4 depending on the length of your session. For this sample session, we recommend a 1-minute recording.
