How to configure Source-Connect 4 to send RTS via MTC and Reaper to send MTC
This tutorial can be used in all versions of Source-Connect 4 (Source-Connect Talent, Source-Connect Studio and Source-Connect Facility).
Follow the instructions below:
- In Source-Connect, click the “Send” button - it will turn green.
- In “TIME REFERENCE INPUT”, select “MTC” and the name of your MIDI device (we had named it “MIDI Reaper” above).
- Select the appropriate FPS.
- In Reaper, go to Reaper > Settings > Audio > MIDI Outputs, and ensure that the MIDI device you created to send MTC is both enabled and has the clock enabled.
- In Reaper, go to File > Project Settings > Project Settings tab and ensure that the Project Start Time is correct. In addition, go to the Video tab and make sure the frame rate is correct.
- In Reaper, go to Insert > SMPTE LTC/MTC Timecode Generator. Then, double click the generator to access the SMPTE Generator Properties. In there, click, “Send MIDI (MTC)” and set both the frame rate and start times:
- Once you are ready, play the timecode in Reaper. If needed, you can click the toggle repeat button next to the play button if you need a longer timecode.
- Play the timecode in Reaper.
In the example below, Pro Tools is sending timecode using “IAC Driver, Reaper”, which is visible in the RTS tab of Source-Connect 4. User “Amber” is sending the RTS timecode:
The talent (Amber, who is on Source-Connect Studio) is receiving the timecode:
