Depending on your DAW, you might need an IAC Driver or a Network Driver. Below are instructions on how to create those.

On macOS - IAC Driver

  1. Press cmd + space and search for the “Audio MIDI Setup” application. Otherwise, simply look for the application on your launchpad.
  2. Go to Window > Show MIDI studio.
  3. There should be a tile called “IAC Driver”.
  4. Double click on the tile.
  5. Check the “Device is online” box.
  6. In the “Ports” section, create a new port and rename it if required. In the case below, we have named it “MIDI SC4”.
  7. Click “Apply” on the bottom right. This will save your changes.

On macOS - Using Network Devices

  1. Press cmd + space and search for the “Audio MIDI Setup” application. Otherwise, simply look for the application on your launchpad.
  2. Go to Window > Show MIDI studio.
  3. In the top nav bar, click the world icon ("Configure Network Driver").
  4. In the “My Sessions” section, click “+” and create a new session called “DAW MTC/MMC Send”.
    1. Ensure “Port” is set to 5004.
    2. “Local name” will be set to “DAW MTC/MMC Send”. Rename it if it is not set by default.
    3. Set "Bonjour name" to “DAW MTC/MMC Send” as well.
    4. In “Who may connect to me”, select “Anyone”.

If you will use Video Sync as well, follow the steps below:

  1. In “My Sessions”, click “+” and create a new session called “Video Sync MTC/MMC Receive”.
    1. Check the box next to “Video Sync MTC/MMC Receive” to enable it.
    2. Set the “Port” to 5006.
    3. “Local name” will be set to “Video Sync MTC/MMC Send”. Rename it if it is not set by default.
    4. Set "Bonjour name" to “Video Sync MTC/MMC Send” as well.
    5. In “Who may connect to me”, select “Anyone”.
  2. With “DAW MTC/MMC Send” selected under “Sessions and Directories”, click “Connect”.
  3. You will see “DAW MTC/MMC Send” under “Participants” as evidence that the MTC/MMC network sessions are connected.

On Windows - IAC Driver

On Windows, you will need to download an application where you can create virtual MIDI ports, such as loopMIDI.

Once installed, you can create new ports in the Setup > My loopback MIDI ports screen by clicking the “+” sign at the bottom left of the screen. You can also name them by entering a new name in the “New port-name” input.
